Will it prevent the long time gurgling of water out of the dish washer after the dishwasher shuts down from continuing to make a gurgling noise as the dishwasher water drains, or is pulled out some how into the sink drain?

The purpose of the "breather" (commonly known as an air gap) is to prevent wastewater from the sink or garbage disposal from siphoning or backing up into your dishwasher. However, it is not designed to stop the gurgling noise. The gurgling sound you hear after the pump shuts down is normal operation caused by air and residual water equalizing as it empties into the P-trap or disposal.
