Not all that long ago, toilets were practically all the same and extremely simple. Those days are over. Though no one thinks of a toilet as a decorative fixture, you can purchase toilet seats today in some very attractive designs that enhance your bathroom, even while adhering to the conventional white china/ceramic look. Some toilet parts look downright luxurious and modern/contemporary.

Many toilets today are also of an exceptionally high quality and innovation, with powerful flushes that keep the toilet bowl clean and the bathroom pleasant. Water saving dual flush toilet offers you two toilet handle controls: one for a light flush, and one for a heavier flush with more water, depending on the level of waste. Browse the specs of individual brand toilets to see the unique flushing systems they use, which do everything from save water, to clean the bowl, to flush super-quietly.

Here are the main aspects you should look out for while shopping for a toilet:

Toilet Installation Type:

Floor Mounted toilet – A floor toilet is the most common and conventional toilets. The full toilet rests on the floor. You can purchase standard toilets in two configurations: A One Piece Toilet has the bowl and tank as one piece, making it sleek and easy to clean. A Two Piece Toilet is done the more age old way, with the bowl and tank being separate, tightly connected pieces. It work just as well and typically cost less than the one piece toilet.

Wall Mounted toilet – A wall hung toilet has the bowl connected to the wall and the tank invisibly behind the wall looking as if it is a tankless toilet. There is nothing but air between the bottom of the bowl and the floor. A wall mount toilet saves space and look very sleek and striking, typically designed with modern/contemporary styling. They do cost more than floor mounted toilets though. You also need to purchase an in-wall toilet tank system for them, which can be complex when installing a toilet. Some wall mounted toilets come with the in-wall tank system included. Some need to be purchased as an option or separately. Geberit tank systems can be adapted to virtually all wall mount toilets.

Shape:

The standard for the toilet bowl and toilet seat is round. However, elongated toilets are increasingly common. They give you an oval like shape that is more comfortable, though it takes up a little more room. Square toilets are even more exquisite and bold from a decorative perspective. Whatever shape you purchase, consider getting a toilet with a "skirt", a toilet tank cover that covers the piping area of the toilet tank parts, which looks better and makes the toilet easier to clean.

Special Features:

There is a range of special features that many modern toilet brands offer on various models. They include soft close toilet seats, which are safer and quieter; and night lights for easier and safer night use. One particularly unique toilet option is toilets that come with a toilet seat, or washlet, that washes your lower extremities – essentially a built in toilet bidet.
