Shared functions means that you can have two things running at the same time, discreet will not allow for that. The discreet valve is usually only used in California as they don't allow two shower functions to be able to run at the same time.

Q:Can this be used with valves from other companies?
A:
No, you will need to purchase the Grohe 29902000 or 29903000 valve to make it work.
