A medicine cabinet is that perfectly placed bathroom feature that is relatively small and low cost but seems to do it all. It stores important medications, creams, and cosmetics. It lets you see yourself during all important teeth brushing, shaving and makeup sessions. It also enhances the entire room from a decorative perspective.

The vast majority of medicine cabinets is the mirrored medicine cabinet selection, but that does not mean that they all look the same. You can get bathroom medicine cabinets in a very wide range of widths and heights, as well as beautiful designs, such as an arched mirror and beveled mirror. At least one medicine cabinet dimension will be perfect for the size of your bathroom, the amount of stuff you need to store in there and the look you desire. A particularly cool option is having a mirrored back of the medicine cabinet door and/or mirrored back of the medicine cabinet. This enables you to see yourself while the medicine cabinet door is open.

For one door medicine cabinets, decide how you want it open. You can get left hinged medicine cabinets, right hinged medicine cabinets or "non-handed" medicine cabinets, which can be made to open on either side. Wide medicine cabinets often come as two door medicine cabinets or three door medicine cabinets for added convenience and a more prominent look. For an especially unique look, and maximum practicality, consider medicine cabinets with mirrors that lift up, instead of open out.

In addition to height and width, the depth of your medicine cabinet will make a real difference in what you can store in there. A 4 inch deep medicine cabinet is the standard size. Going up to a 5”, 6” or deeper medicine cabinet will go a long way. If a deeper medicine cabinet is too deep to be recessed into your walls or protrude from the wall surface, consider installing a semi-recessed medicine cabinet. Another common way to increase storage space is to pair two medicine cabinets side by side, offering you the ideal width and storage.

Even with the mirror taking up all or most of the faces of these medicine cabinets, there is a surprisingly broad array of decorative looks. Traditional medicine cabinets come with frames, typically wood, for an antique or vintage look. Transitional and modern/contemporary medicine cabinet designs are based off the gleaming mirror, which is either frameless or with a mere sleek frame. Design creativity for transitional medicine cabinets and modern/contemporary medicine cabinets go mostly in the shape and slopes of the mirrors, and/or the beveled mirror designs.

Installation:

The most common and simplest installation type is the wall mount, or surface mount medicine cabine, which is installed atop the wall surface. Recessed medicine cabinets are installed into a custom sized gap in the wall to accommodate your medicine cabinet. This is both sleek and space saving. Only the outer surface/doors of the medicine cabinet stick out of the wall surface. Semi-recessed medicine cabinets are installed partially within the wall, but sticks out a little too. This can be a great option if you can’t practically fit the entire depth of the cabinet within your wall, or if you just happen to like this look. Browse the medicine cabinet selection to see which one or more of these installation options individual medicine cabinets offer you.

Features:

There are various features that will greatly enhance your medicine cabinet. The most common feature is soft close hinges, which make the medicine cabinet doors close quieter and more safely than ordinary hinges. Other medicine cabinet options include organizer kits, for awesome organizing; lighting, for better nighttime use; defogger, which great to ensure clear view in a bathroom; and electrical outlet, which lets you conveniently plug in shaver, hair dryer or other device. For the coolest experience, consider a medicine cabinet with TV, which lets you enjoy HDTV entertainment in the corner of the mirror.
