The Hottest Interior Design Trends of 2018

Get with the times! 2018 will be a year of style-defining trends that will change the way you decorate. Check out the top ten design trends of the new year!
It’s 2018, and though we’re not even a month into it, every design expert (and even every garden-variety design enthusiast) is forecasting the home decor trends of 2018. We’ve seen enduring trends come and go as grays are edged out by off-whites and clean, minimalistic lines are replaced by soft curves. Stark white minimalism is out – dramatic and colorful is coming in strong! To make your search easier, we’ve read all the predictions and compiled a list of the ones that everyone actually agrees on.
Natural materials
Think woven materials, wood in its natural state (though reclaimed wood may be on its way out), natural stones (agate-patterned wallpapers? Yes please!). This trend is all about authenticity, so it also encompasses artisan fixtures over mass-produced.

Saturated colors
Moody shades, dark hues, jewel tones, and even reds are rich, dramatic, and oh-so-2018, especially on kitchen cabinetry and even counters.

Warm neutrals
Kiss your gray goodbye. The new neutrals are warmer and softer, like off-white, tan, and beige (no, the color’s not as awful as its name suggests).

Warm metals
Noticing a warming-up trend? Mixed metals will be huge in 2018, with warm tones – brass, gold, rose gold – leading the pack.

Black and white
This classic combo isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, but it’s getting an update this year. Decorate and accessorize with matte black for a subtly striking effect.

Retro colors
Shuddering over the return of Harvest Gold and Avocado Green? Don’t worry – they’ve evolved. Olive green is making a comeback this year, as is purple (in the form of Pantone Ultra Violet and its less daring counterparts lavender and lilac) – just don’t put those colors together!

Warmth
Yes, again with the warmth. This time, it’s in the texture and vibe. Overstuffed furniture, touchable textures, knits, and velvets create a homey, cozy ambiance.

Bold patterns
On floors, textiles, and furnishings – no more subtle designs and quiet texture. These patterns are in your face and we love them: look out for circles and florals at the front and center, terrazzo flooring, and even patterned plants for depth and interest.

Colored trim
Go with contrasting trim or tone-on-tone – both will be stylish this year. For a full tone-on-tone effect, try painting the furniture too!

Curves
Real houses have ‘em. The 2018 trends are leaning toward traditional design overall, swapping out clean lines (and sharp corners!) with curvy furniture and soft edges.
