10 DIY Ideas for Mother’s Day Brunch

Time to show Mom just how much you love her (and how glad you are that she didn't give you up during your teen years). Throw a DIY Mother's Day brunch that everyone will remember.
Mother’s Day is coming up! (May 14th, for those of you who still haven’t thought of a gift or bought a card.) Sure, we appreciate Mom year-round, but Mother’s Day is the time to make her feel extra-special. Luckily, Mother’s Day is fairly low-stress in terms of celebration expectations, so it’s a good time to exercise your creativity at a DIY Mother’s Day brunch.
Show Mom how much she means to you – skip the overcrowded, underwhelming restaurant brunches and throw her a party that’s really meaningful. Try one, some, or even all of these awesome ideas (click any image for instructions) for an awesome bash:
1. Add a loving personal touch to a tea party for your tea-loving mom; create a custom blend of her favorite flavors and tie it up with a nostalgic picture to take it up a notch. You can make your own tea bags a la Camille Styles:

2. Got more of a champagne mom? Add some sparkle to that bottle like Style Me Pretty:

3. Get the kids in on the decor with a party-ready table runner.
Materials needed: white butcher paper, fingerpaints, and the kids’ (or grandkids’!) cute little fingers. Check out this super-easy tutorial by HGTV (though it’s pretty self-explanatory):

4. Shop your house (and your garden) for an easy but striking tablescape; copy this centerpiece from The Knot:

5. Pack a picnic with flair – wrap up a sandwich, drink, and whatever else you’ll need in a pretty patterned dishtowel for each guest (learn how from DIY master Martha Stewart):

6. Coordinate your table accents for a simply gorgeous effect (without having to match anything to your dishes) and take advantage of Mother Nature’s decor for elegant terrarium centerpieces, like these from House Beautiful:

7. Create fresh (and easy!) place cards – just pluck a bloom and tie a scrap of paper to it to dress up every place setting, like these from Hayneedle:

8. Whatever’s on the menu, make it more formal simply by printing said menu in a pretty font and tacking it up in a prominent place. (For a larger party, consider menu cards for each table or seat.) Need inspiration? Try this simple beauty from Style Me Pretty:

9. Give each plate a little love with this easy-to-do napkin fold (even for you origami beginners!), courtesy of Rue Magazine.

10. Wrap invites, cards, or gift cards in delicate, frilly envelopes for that extra-special touch (once again, the work of Camille Styles):
