A thermostatic control also removes the need to reset the temperature every time you bathe or shower, and allows you to use a shower head and hand shower at once.
The other system type is the pressure balance tub and shower control, which is cheaper and most common. Pressure balance controls utilize a single control for both temperature and volume, and regulates temperature by balancing the pressure of the hot and cold water flows. This offers a fairly reliable and steady temperature control, but lacks the precision and convenience offered by thermostatic controls.
